Great until it breaks

Bought 2.5yr ago but all the sudden something broke - not sure what it's called but it looks like a trim piece right around the drum. It literally ripped a hole in my outer cabinet and of course is fully UN functional now. I called the retailer from which I bought and they directed me to Maytag who said that even if the drum is under warranty, the labor to fix this issue would not be. I sort of get it, but this is a pretty bad example of a product defect and not just normal wear and tear. It's not an electrical failure, it is a piece of metal which has broken through normal use and then ruined my machine. Further, Maytag said in order to even speak to someone about whether or not the part is under warranty I'd have to pay to have a service call to get a documented diagnosis, then again, only the part would be covered. I paid around $1000 for this machine and it was working great until all the sudden it is not, otherwise I would have given 1 star. But I must admit i'm truly disappointed at the fact that a mechanical issue like this, related to the drum itself, wouldn't be fully covered for a replacement (or repair) without me having to pay in the neighborhood of $300 for service when it is the manufacturer's product which is defective.

I have had this dryer for about a month. It quickly dries jeans and heavy flannel shirts without the hot heat that shrinks them. The lint reminder is great for my teenagers to remember to check when doing laundry.

Very happy with my new gas dryer! Spacious, shiny, stainless steel interior. Gentle on my clothing. Seems like almost endless possibilities for garment care. Just beginning to learn all of them. Beautiful-looking appliance-especially in the slate color!
