Major video display issues

This TV worked great during the one year warranty period but in the 13 month the picture started going out (still had sound) for about 5 minutes 2 - 3 times per day. Now in the 17th month it happens about 5 to 10 times per day and it is very annoying,

Neat idea, Poor Execution

Bottom Line: Neat idea, poor execution, I'd stay away from Samsung for a while. The Bad: Software - - Advertisements hijack your TV. The main menu that allows you to select between sources and all of the smart apps will start to advertise content to you. - Updates will continue even after you turn them off. - More than half of on-board storage is used up by apps that cannot be deleted. - The apps that cannot be deleted collect data from your device and send it out via wifi (most likely to sell it). I verified this by monitoring my device traffic at the router. - The apps you can delete will automatically reinstall themselves no matter what. - ***comments about customer support are not allowed in Samsung reviews*** - The user interface on many of the apps is annoying. Streaming apps will auto-play selected content while browsing (cannot be turned off), lists and categories of movies can be difficult to navigate, and simple tasks like adding a selected title to your favorites will require between 5-10 button presses on the included remote. - The art mode has ridiculously limited format options for the artwork and no slideshow mode. - The art store is rather expensive for digital art. Hardware - - The television is a very expensive paperweight without the One Connect box (included). It will not function at all without it. All you will see is an image on the screen telling you to connect your One Connect box until it is connected. No way around it, period. All of the HDMI and audio connections live in that box along with the "brain". - The connection to that box is a proprietary cable. - At the time of writing this, there are no aftermarket manufacturers of this cable. - The current price for this cable is ***prices are not allowed in Samsung reviews*** and could be compared to round trip airfare from Denver to NYC. - Cable is VERY fragile - Cable rarely lasts 6 months according to 100% 1 star rating of product on the Samsung website. - It appears that Samsung changes the connection at the TV every year. That means that the availability of this cable is low, limited, and likely short-lived. Again, and I can't stress this enough, the TV will not function at all without this super-rare, proprietary $$$ glass-like wire that has a shelf life of less than 6 months. - The art mode does not pass as anything other than a TV or digital picture frame. The videos where people are surprised that the painting was a TV are laughable. Installation - - If you want to use the flat mount (included) you may be very limited on mounting locations. There's no horizontal adjustment to the mount and it's designed to be centered on a stud. So if the exact center of your mounting location has a stud centered there and your other studs are 16" center to center, you're good. Since there's only about a statistical 3% chance of that, you may have to explore other options. (1/2" of stud center for every 16", if you were wondering about those statistics) You can get another mount, but it won't be flat against the wall. You can live with your TV being off center and just go to nearest stud. Or if you're not into compromise, you can have a custom fitted to your wall flat mount fabricated somewhere. The Good: - The picture is bright, clear, and high quality. - When mounted flat with cables routed through the wall, it looks very clean and flat. - The art mode is much nicer to look at than a TV that is turned off. - I haven't noticed any "burn-in" with the art mode displaying the same picture for days at a time (see above about no slideshow). - I've had mine for about 8 months and the fragile cable that can turn my $$$$ TV into a brick has not needed to be replaced. - Said cable is now obsolete (yes, 8 months after purchase), but still listed on the Samsung website ($$$). Overall / Other Thoughts: I like the TV. I hate all the spyware/bloatware. I cannot believe that that fragile little cable can render the entire unit useless. The customer support ***comments about customer support are not allowed in Samsung reviews***. Those apps that cannot be removed are a problem. Samsung has made a deal with the owners of those apps to prevent you, the user, from removing them. Accidental clicks on pay apps would account for part of that revenue stream, but the larger part is likely the sale of user data through the app. The idea that I can't control the content on a device that I own bothers me on a fundamental level. That ultra-fragile proprietary cable seems like it is designed to fail as part of forced obsolescence. People are reporting that it just fails without being touched. I don't think I want to support a company like this in the future.

Beautiful tv, great features.

I’ve had this tv for about about a week, and it’s pretty amazing. It’s the first tv I’ve owned that actually adds to the decor. I have the light colored wood bezel. The picture and sound quality are all quite good as well. I expected this since I’d owned a Samsung prior to this tv. In fact, after having that tv for 6 years and it still working perfectly, I had to convince myself to buy a new one. I’m not Dodaro with my decision in the least.

My wife did not want a TV where this one now sits. She wanted a nice piece of art instead. This was the perfect compromise. Now she has a piece of art that she can change anytime she wants and I have my TV. Note, I am a Samsung Employee who purchased this for personal use.

I ordered the TV online, it shipped 2 weeks later, was delivered by 3rd party. Proceeded to hang it on the wall immediately after delivery. Upon turning it on, discovered the bottom corner of the screen was cracked (if you follow the install instructions, this is the first opportunity you have to actually inspect the TV). While this damage was too much, the TV would not even properly turn on, it kept cycling through the start-up process, so it clearly had more than cosmetic damage. After 10 minutes, I had to unplug it since the remote would not work to turn it off. The shipping box only had a small amount of obvious damage where the screen was cracked (other parts of the box looked worse), but the styrofoam inside the the box was also cracked, meaning it was either dropped or crushed. I recognize this probably happened in transit outside of Samsung's control, but here is where the customer service falls short. I call customer service, they transfer me to another department, that is closed, and the message did not even indicate their hours of operation, but abruptly hung up. I emailed them the same night, including pictures, about the issue (they didn't even have the model number in the drop down box to choose from). The next day I get an email telling me that I need to call a specific department. While Samsung will process the return, I have to pack up the TV and arrange to send it back. What do I get for spending hours of my time dealing with this hassle, I get a 100% refund, but if I want a replacement, I have to place another order, and wait over 2 weeks for another unit to ship. At this point, we are looking at over 5 weeks at the earliest from when I placed the initial order to potentially having a functioning unit, while I now have a bunch of holes in my wall that are specific to only that TV frame mount. Samsung's representative, while they did process the return, did not seem that bothered about a customer being inconvenienced nor did they seem interested in understanding the issue. Now, let me actually critique the unit. There are some design flaws when it comes to execution of mounting it on the wall. The power cord is entirely too long if you have a power box behind the TV and want to completely conceal the cord (sort of the intention of the Frame concept). The cavity for the excess cord (which shares the plug for the One Connect) does not have enough room for the cord, unless you painstakingly line the cavity with the cord, carefully folding back and forth tightly. Keep in mind that the One Connect plug is larger than an HDMI plug and takes up the middle of the cavity. The cord does fit in a nice seam along the bottom to remain hidden, but at the point it needs to go up to the power receptacle (behind the TV), the notch in the back is not big enough to keep the TV from slightly protruding from the wall (unless the solution is to carve into the wall). The cord and plug are at a 90 degree angle (not a straight plug and not a true flat plug), meaning if you plug it into a recessed outlet, you need to notch out the plastic in the outlet in order to have the TV fit flush against the wall as "designed". Some of the mounting hardware was missing from the box and the drywall anchors they included were useless as they did not grip and just spun in the wall once the fastener was flush (these were not over-tightened either, they were gently screwed in). Fortunately the mount is designed for at least 2 fasteners to go into studs.
